lightbank 2017 Retrospective
A Year In as Managing Partner
Since 2010 lightbank’s approach has been to focus on entrepreneurs, leverage our entrepreneurial DNA, optimize our extensive network and hustle. By staying true to our heritage, 2017 was one of the most successful years in lightbank’s history.
The lightbank portfolio continues to generate tremendous value and top tier returns. We are honored to work with and support some of the best entrepreneurs and teams in the industry. Some highlights from 2017 include the follow-on financings of Tempus, Uptake, Fooda and snapsheet. Additionally, portfolio companies TastyTrade, Sprout Social and Udemy continue to grow their market leading positions. In 2017, we also added Clearcover to the lightbank family to build a next generation insurance company and redefine how auto insurance is provided to consumers.
Our network continues to produce exciting proprietary investment opportunities. In 2018, you can expect lightbank to announce new portfolio companies that we have been nurturing in 2017. These will include incubated opportunities here in the Chicago / Midwest area as well as companies from the Coasts.
Most importantly, this type of success comes only from the combined efforts and talents of a great team. The year I have spent with the lightbank team has been truly extraordinary. Eric Lefkofsky, Brad Keywell and Bill Pescatello are fantastic partners to be in venture capital with. Rick Zullo and Eric Ong are key elements of the lightbank investment team. Operationally, Mike Mauceri provides finance leadership for our fund as well as support for our portfolio.
As I stated in the start of 2017, lightbank is an amazing firm. It’s an absolute privilege to be a part this team and work with passionate and brilliant entrepreneurs that are building game-changing, enduring companies. With our entrepreneurial DNA, proprietary investment opportunities and track record of top tier returns, I am confident 2018 will be an even stronger year for lightbank.
